Why is having a bitch spayed sometimes referred to as "dressed"? :confused:

Have heard it a couple of times, and seen it on a few threads, but don't understand the connection :(

I think it is a Scottish word - maybe along the lines of dressing chickens when you pluck them?

When you dress a bird (or game) for the table you not only pluck it but also eviscerate it. I guess this is where 'dressing' comes from (i.e. the removal of internal organs!)
