I got a new puppy Sunday night. Monday I gave him 1/2 the food (Naturals) supplied to me and 1/2 of the food (Iams) I will be using and his poop was fine. (That's what the breeder told me to do.) Today it has been like pudding. Should I just give him his old food? Is it the home transition or the food? He eats and eats and eats. I've been feeding him 3x a day, is that correct? He's only about 3 lbs. or so, I'm guessing. He's a 3 mth old pug, very small. His belly is full and round but I'm worried if it gets any softer or stays that soft.

First it is common for a pup to get soft poo when they go to a new home (your bugs are different to the breeders bugs) and it is often the water. Second do not change the food as quickly as you are doing take about 10 to 14 days to do it. And Third why do you want to use Iams, there are IMO a lot of much better foods on the market, and Iams would be near the bottom of my list but if that is what you wish then do it more slowly, don't go to a 50/50 mix more like a 90/10 mix and increase the Iams a little each day.

You could be giving him too much at each meal do you have him on 4 meals a day.

Has he been wormed.

I think the breeder misinformed me about the 50/50 on the food. You're right, that's too quick. The water should be the same, we live in the same town. He's only had his first shot, I'm not sure if that included worms but I'm taking him when it's time for his next shot visit. Actually I have to have him checked this week because that's what the breeder requires, so I'll ask the vet too.

What's the best food to get at a supermarket or Walmart, that's where I mostly shop. I can't always get to a pet store. I guess I could stalk up.
