Hello all, I hope that you can help me with this query.  I bought Glazby just over a month ago from an advert in the local paper.  He came to me with his full KC Papers etc etc.  I would like to get his information updated by having him registered to me as his owner.  However, on reading the back of the registration certificate it says that I need the signature of the breeder to do this.

The person I bought him from wasn't the breeder, it was a guy who said that it was against his religion to have dogs in the house and his family were refusing to come round anymore (don't ask!!).

Do I still need to contact the original breeder to gain their authorisation to change his details?  Also, from a breeder's point of view, do you think that they would appreciate me letting them know where Glazby is now, just as a point of interest for them?  I'd love to find out all about him but don't want to bother the breeder if this is not the norm!!

Any advice would be appreciated.

Thanks, Hayley & Glazby

You need to contact the breeder and ask them to sign the registration form, it is normal to do so when the pup is sold but maybe it was overlooked.

Thanks for your help, I think I'll write them a letter and include a picture of him for them now!!

Who's name is on the KC papers now?  the breeder or the chap you bought the dog from?  you will need a signature either way I think, just depends who's name is on the paperwork now, if the chap you bought the dog from didn't re-register him, then you will need the breeders signature, if he did change ownership then you just need him to sign.

I hope that makes sense.........lol.

By the looks of the paperwork, it looks like the guy I got him from was his second owner.  His KC papers are still in the breeders name however his microchip papers are in another name which I presume was the first owner.  It doesn't look as if the bloke I got him from had updated anything or gained any signatures along the way.  I think I'm goign to have to contact the breeder to obtain signature for updating the KC Papers and the original owner to update the microchip details!!

Thanks again, I did email the Kennel Club weeks ago to ask the question but never heard back from them - you guys are much better!!

You don't necessarily need the previous owners signature to change the Microchip papers. Just send the details off with a note stating that it's a rescue and everything should go through ok. At least that is what my ex was told when he rescued a microchipped pup. The paper work never did arrive from the previous owners.
