could anyone please tell me how long is best to wait between litters.

I think that you should not breed from a bitch more than once in 12 months; but that is only MPO, although it is what my breed clubs code of ethics/conduct say.

We actually wait every two years.  We normally only ever take 2 litters from a bitch.

Our breed club says no more than 3 litters in each bitches lifetime.

The breeder of one of my dogs suggests no more than 3 litters or 20 puppies. I feel that this is good advice.

Leave at least one clear season between litters.

I would say at least 18 months between litters.  And I would have no more than 2 litters from a bitch too.
If she can't produce you a stunner in 2 litters from 2 different sires, why keep trying?
