Hi all
My 11 week puppy has just has his first set of vacs four days ago - he was fine before, loved his food and his poos were nice and solid. But now he will not eat his food in one go (he keeps going back to it duirng the morning etc) and all his poos have been quite runny - Im taking him to the vets this afternoon - but just wondered if anyone else had experienced this problem - or am I just a worried mum?
Many Thanks
Jenny
Hi Jenny
It could be a result of the vaccination or it could be that he is having too much food, eating too much in one go can cause dire-rear. Around his age is generally the time to cut down from four meals to three as they often "go off" a meal. It is still as well to consult your vet to rule out any problems and if you have a clean small jar handy take a sample with you
Hope he is okay

Hi Jenny
Our GSD pup had a dicky tummy at about 11 weeks. The vet said it was puppy enteritis, which is quite common. She had a mild course of antibiotics and it cleared up OK. She's now a strapping 1 year old with the constitution of an ox!

Thanks for all your help, turns out Sam has clolitis- he has been given a course of anitbiotics and seems to be a different puppy altogether in one day!! although he has forgotten all his toilet training and is now leaving little puddles in the house, seems to be every half hour as well, does this seem excessive to anyone or am I just being a worried mum?
Thanks

Your being a worried Mum, now he feels better he has more important things to do than try to remember he needs to go out side. Go back to putting him out every half hour or so, he will soon improve.

Thanks - i did a bit more research into his antibiotics and the side effect is thirst, therefore he will pee a lot more, but his colitus is getting a lot better :-)

Sorry, I should have posted my question about soft poo here. I started a new subject and the administration will probably correct me but I also have a 12 week old pug puppy who's poop is very soft. I only had him 2 days, yesterday was fine, today is like pudding. He's active and eats and drinks a lot but I don't want it to continue. Do you think adding Iams to his regular food has caused it? Should I just keep him on what he's used to? Could it be the move to my house?
Thanks in advance
Renee
New puppies should IMO remain on the food they have been having at their breeders for at least 2 weeks. Everything else changes - environment, people, water, bedding so food should remain the one constant in their lives. If you then feel you must change it do it gradually, not half and half.
This is the main reason so many pups get the runs when they go to their new homes.

I think one of they key areas that is overlooked when bringing a puppy home is the water. Most people bring home a bag of the dog food the breeder has fed but very few think of taking a large container to bring home some tap water! If you bear in mind that the quality and constitution of water, including its hardness, varies widely across the country and that it is one of the key causes of stomach upsets both here and abroad (not necessarily due to bad bacteria) I am constantly surprised that more people are not aware of this!

I think we have the same water, we live in the same town. The breeder did give me food but she said to mix 50/50 with mine. I'm going to give it all it's own food awhile until the pup is adjusted and older.
Thanks

Sorry for this Jenny but I just can't resist asking you this any longer
"Why is your dogs rear dire?" Is it too fat, does it smell :D :D
I have trouble spelling the word too but just thought your version was so funny :-)
Hi Anne-Marie
My fault I am afraid - I got fed up with looking the word up every time as I can never remember how to spell it so started using the current version which seems to have become somewhat popular :)

Hello,
I have now started another thread about the same subject. (Sorry didnt see this one first)
My labrador pup is 13 weeks old, he is very lively when awake and seems well in his self but his stools are very soft all of the time. I am feeding him Eukanuba Junior large breed dog (80g) 3 times a day, which was what the breeder was feeding him. He has had his booster jab and has been wormed, but he had the soft stools before this.
The first day I had him his stools were fine. Am I feeding him enough? He seems to be gaining weight. I have been searching the net and there are so many different opinions.

Hi i am feeding my lab Eukanuba Puppy and junior for medium sized dogs. She is doing well on it. The first few days when i was changing her over from the food that her breeder had her on she was a bit lose but now her poo's are normal and she is doing fine.

Hello to everyone.
Sorry for not replying earlier, thank you all for your advice, it is nice to know that there are people out there who care and understand how you feel. Puppy is now very well dire rear all cleared up, vet said it was probably the settling in period.
