My little dog is a year old.  He is marking everywhere (indoors & out), he does this particulary when I take him to my sisters house (just can't figure out why).  He is not done yet - has anyone had a similar experience and did it help by getting you dog castrated?

I would forget the castration to solve this problem!  Your dog is a year old, and is going through his teenage stage - it is normal for him to scent mark a lot.  The thing is, you don't want him doing it in the house - you have to watch him like a hawk and catch him in the act.  As soon as you see him go to lift his leg, really shout a sharp 'no', and send him into the garden straight away (if you have one) - it shouldn't be long before he gets the message.  He may be marking more at your sister's house as it isn't his territory - when we moved house, our dog was 10 months old, and tried to scent mark the new house.  So the important thing is, don't at the moment leave him on his own in the lounge or wherever - you need to be able to keep your eye on him - anticipate! The longer he is getting away with doing it, the longer it will take to get him out of the habit!

Oh teenagers - what fun! NOT <G>  As well as distracting him from marking behaviours, it's a good idea to make sure you clean/wash down the area correctly so he doesn't come back, smell his scent and repeat the performance.  The best way of doing this is a hot solution of biological washing powder followed by a wipe over with white spirit (this helps to break down the fatty acids which carry the 'scent')
