Topic Dog Boards / Breeding / How big will our puppy grow?

Our pup's Mum is a Jack Russell (a tall one!) His Dad did the dirty deed without owning up!! Our Pup came from a farm which has working labradors. I think one of the labs is likely to be his Dad as he is big for a JR. He is now nearly 12 weeks and weighs about 6kg. He is about 12 inches high.

Can anyone tell us whether this is an average size for a labrador of the same age? If so, how big do you think he'll be when fully grown?

That's the thing with crossbreeds Webby. There is no way of knowing how the puppy will turn out. Your puppy could take after Mum or Dad, or then again, come any point between the two. Sorry I can't be of any help.

Hi,

Average size for a lab would be approx 21" to 22.5", but there is no guarantee that the JRT will reduce the size.

All the time your pup has knobbly knees, he is still growing, so when he is 30" tall and still has knobbly knees, start worrying.... :D

My mum had a lab x jrt and he wasn't very big but had the head and body of a lab and the legs of the jack russell ,she took him in at 3 months old and he lived to a ripe old age of 16 ,he passed away in his sleep last April purely through old age as he never ailed a thing.

my grandma and grandad, got one years ago, as a pup it looked like a normal, lab, but as it grew, its body stayed just a bit taller than a normal long legged JR but her head was Lab, in looks and size, the vet said she wouldnt live past the age of 5 she lived to be 15 and she only passed away as she was chasing a rat, and tried to folllow it thorugh the bottom of the stable door about 6 inches, of the ground and broke her neck, she was a happy dog :D
