my uncle has bought a 3 year old male golden retriever off a farmer he is totally iresponsible i was hoping someone could tell me a bit about goldies
are they good with cats and as he has 3 kids aged 5 to 10 i am a little bit worried as my father said why was the farmer selling a three year old in the first place if the dog was a bitch i would have said puppy farm my dad is very annoyed with my uncle as dad has had dogs for 25 pears and judged and showed and he never asked his advice .my uncle just arrived home last night with this dog and my cousin rang me to tell me my dad is worried that the dog could snap or something we are going to visit tomorrow to see his reaction with the kids and us they have 5 cats and 2 ponies
any advice greatly appreciated

Hi Gina
If they have three children plus the cats and ponies I would have thought this dog has plenty to get used to without more (you and your family) to put him under increased stress.
Why not let him settle down for a few weeks in his new home before you visit?
yes i think you could be right hopefully his temperment will be ok with the kids especially the youngest because he always seems to go for a dogs tail i put mollie upstairs away from him when they call because he drives her mad any tips i could give my uncle ......
thanks

He might be a failed gundog, which would be deemed useless as a stud. I hope things work out ok.
Lucy
so do i i was talking to my cousin (10) last night and she said that he is friendly and that the cats are scared of him and that the gave him a wash last night his name is sam and that he is not 3 he is only 1 1/2 as she previously told me he was 3 anyway derek my uncle wants dad to have a look at him so we are going to leave him settle in and call out next week they have had visitors already and he was fine with them going to find out the whole story when i talk to my uncle on saturday
she also said that she brought him down to the ponies i told her to keep him away in case they kick him as my cousins pup was killed a few years ago by a cow at 8 weeks of course she was not listening to me it will be her own fault if something happens
they are talking a chance but hopefully they will be ok ........
