Hello!
Wheeler has worked out how to open doors in the house now so when we went out he managed to get in to the living room, knock the tree down and have a wee on the carpet:( Does any one know what we could use to stop him from opening the doors? Thanks for any suggestions!

Don't know but when you find out let me know!!! My 10 year old can open all the doors in my house and my parent's house. He has even sussed out the latch on the baby gate. He commits the crime and the others sit behind him egging him on. I have given up!!!

Knobs are better than handles. A friend put stops under the handles on her doors so you needed to lift the handle to open the door.
Another friend is training her young Coton du Tulear as an assistance dog. She has cords on all doors, room and cupboard, for the dog to pull to open the doors. She has also trained her dog to take the washing out of the washing machine.
Best wishes, John

I used to turn handles upside down but now we have knobs
Debbie.
My Sweepy can open them as well, not only dooer handles but she knows if the handle of the bolts aren`t down to rattle the door till the bolt slides thru & the door opens! Keepp saying shes too clever for her own good, wouldn`t be to bad if she`d could just close them after her :D
I`m putting knobs or latches in the new house ;)

Our oldest can open doors :( But as we have a doggy gate up at the kitchen/hall he knows that it doesn't do any good :) However, he isn't bright enough to work out that if he opened the door from kitchen/dining room, then dining room/lounge, then lounge/hall, he could get round that way :D He can only think in straight lines, not circles :D

I use a hook and eye latch on my kitchen door when I go out. Depending on the door and frame a slide bolt could do the trick.

well i thought we that harley back haunting us,the other day chase the f/c and gollie the swd were out side on the drive, then the same thing happen on monday night when i was on the phone chase out side barking at the end off the drive,he open the front door like harley use to do,bit scarley,so we now knock it when we are in as well as when we are out, plus he open the fire door into the garge were the dog food is,again it knock now, plus tehya the 8 month old f/c doing the same as chase she must watch him do it.
so all the doors are knocked next thing he be opening the garge door on the pull cord and let him self out for a walk.
My husky does this to let himself in and out into the garden.. Unfortunately he hasn`t learnt to shut door after himself yet. I always laugh as they pack always have to wait for Logan if they want to come in and I`m not immediately to hand.
Anyhow I have friends whose dogs do this and they apparently have turned the handles upside down to prevent dogs leaning on handle to open it. Don`t know if that helps

Fit knobs instead of handles, OR turn the leaver handles upside down.....
this morning, delilah opened the door to the front room, opened a ZIPPED suitcase, got out a plastic bag, opened that, and found one of her birthday presents, which she then unwrapped... question is...how did she know it is her birthday today? she hasnt tried it before and its been in there a week? :D

I turn the handles upsidedown..works a treat...and gets them out of the habit...and soon they give up.

Thanks for the replies! Is it easy to turn the handles up side down? and after a while will he learn to stop trying to do it? Im desperate for ideas as we will be leaving him on his own after the holidays for about an hour and we really dont want him getting in to other rooms as he always seems to wee in them:( Now he can do it he wont stop doing it! I was thinking about putting something over the handles but knowing him he would probably eat what ever was on it :D

it's just a matter of turning the handle upside down.
