Happy New Year to you all

This is normal of any bitch in season.
Most will bleed for around 21 days, some have a heavy discharge, others have a lighter discharge.
Some bitches (but not all) will loose less around the time of ovulation.
If she was mated at the right time - there's a good chance she could be in whelp.  :)

Usually a bitch will "dry up" after mating if they have taken.  All ours tend to.  We have just mated Chloe and she dried up 2 days later.   I hasten to add that this is not always the case.  fingers crossed for you.

Part of my job involes doing cytology on bitches in season being mated & from experience bitches will bleed throughout their season, regardless of a) if she's been mated & b) if she has taken from the matings.

Hi,
I suggest you buy a copy of "The Book of the Bitch" by Evans and White. It will answer all your questions, and more that you hadn't asked!

Basically, a bitch is in season for an average of 21 days - some a day or so shorter, some a day or so longer. The most fertile time is usually round about the 10th to 15th days, though every bitch is different (and every season in the same bitch is different) and some are fertile earlier and others not till later. Usually, when the bleeding goes paler the bitch is reaching her fertile time.

6 months is the average length of time between seasons. Anything between 5 months and 10 months is normal - some breeds only come into season once a year. You will need to learn your bitch's own particular cycle.

Hope this helps.
:)

I have had bitches that have continued to bleed for the 21 days of their season even when they have been mated and they have still produced healthy litters without any problems, so stop worrying and enjoy your bitch and treat her as if she is pregnant. Good luck with you litter when it arrives
