Topic Dog Boards / Feeding / prize choice frozen blocks
- By lindaphillips [gb] Date 30.12.03 17:16 UTC
Hi all,
My 20 week old cocker spaniel Jessis being fed raw but I have bought some prize choice blocks for convenience.  Are these little frozen raw dinners complete or do I have to add any supplements with them?
Thanks in advance

I think if you look on the back it will tell you what is in it and that is usually one type of meat, (if it is called a dinner it has two) and about 4% bone.  I only use the tripe as all other meat that I source for my dogs is human grade.

If you feed the blocks you will need to feed one meal of RMBs to ensure that she is getting enough calcium from raw bones etc.  EG you could feed one meal part of the block (defrosted etc) and the second meal chicken wings etc.

I use these sometimes....mostly the tripe blocks, or the freeflow frozen tripe......i only has tiddly dogs, so mine get a quarter of a block and a spoon of veg for breakfast....then wings for dinner.

I bought 10 of the 400g blocks, 6 chicken and tripe, 2 rabbit dinner and 2 lamb dinner.  I have noticed since reading the back of the packet that it says to feed with biscuits.  Tohme, I noticed you say you only use the tripe. I am a bit worried now.  Are the others nasty stuff?  i thought that all their stuff was human grade, is it o.k. to give to 20 week puppy?

No it is not "nasty" at all, it is that I prefer to give around 50 - 60% of my dogs raw meaty bones in the form of carcases, drumsticks, wings, thighs, etc in order that they a) get the calcium they require and b) they have chewing exercise.  I buy tripe from pet choice as it is easier and simpler than from an abbatoir but I try to source organic human grade meat as much as possible for my dogs.

The meat that is commercially available from places like AMP, Berriewood, etc etc may use parts of the animals that we as humans do not eat, from choice not because there is necessarily anything "wrong" with it. It is fine to feed your pup.

I am sure it says on the back it MAY be given with biscuits.  I personally choose not to feed any form of grain/cereal to my dogs as do many others.

Why don't you join Britbarf on Yahoo as you can get the advice of many experienced raw feeders to help you?
