Has anyone seen any good computer deals while out and about at the sales ??
I am looking to replace this one as I need loads more memory and a better printer and Better spec alround etc
Not worth adding memory to this one - it will do for the kids and while I have a bit of cash to splash ( hey I'm a poet :)  ) I may as well try to get a bargain

I cant believe I am the only one looking to upgrade while the sales are going on.
I have been on the Dell website and although they start off pretty reasonable , once you start to customise to your specification they end up costing a fortune !!!
Has any one seen any special offes in the daily papers recently ???

Sorry Lel, I can't help you. My son sorts all our computer problems including building his own (and constantly changing it!) so I wouldn't have a clue what's on offer but I'll ask him if he knows of any good deals though. :)

Hi Lel.

Friends of mine have just bought a hewlett packard one with flat screen, printer, scanner etc etc in PC World and think they have a good bargain. Not sure of price but under £1,000 with all software etc. Trying to make mine last another year or so. It is a MESH.

Hi Lesley,
I've had a word with my son and he says he gets most of his stuff here.

http://www.cclcomputers.biz/

He says they are extremely good on price. He reckons a lot of these deals only look good because they charge so much in the first place. CCL do ready made systems, or you can design your own and build it yourself or get them to build it. I've been there a few times as they are near us and I was impressed.  Good support too. :)

Hello Lel,

Sorry only just caught this :) I agree with Kath's son a lot of the deals are only good because they charge so much orginally.
I brought my computer from a local (computershop one man business) he did my computer from scratch cost me including a keyboard etc £420 he loaded it with Windows XP just as it came out I have since been told it would have cost me £1500 in the shops at that time. I have updated it with a 17" screen since then, and I would really recommend that the bigger the screen the better :D
Try and find a local shop or vist the site Kath's son recommended according to Ben its where he gets some of his from.

AAAWWWWW  you poor things you've missed the BEST computer deal :(    Before Christmas ALDI were selling a 160G hard drive , 520M Ram, 'Media  Centre' (cd drive, dvd, etc.) Pentium4 computer for @ £700 with cordless mouse and keyboard, printer and scanner were also available for peanuts (top range) also included were Windows XP and every package you could possibly need to be up and running (publishing/running your business/enjoying yourself).  My friend bought one and is thrilled with it.

If you're prepared to wait, Aldi usually sell a computer around April time.  The shops usually take around 6 months to 'catch up' with their specs.  The ALDI computer (Medion) is usually reviewed in the computer magazines and always gets the BUY It NOW sticker, or BEST BUY.

Regards
Dill

PS. I use one myself, and have no complaints :D

My PC is steam driven! I'm considering rebuilding it later in the year. It was (Almost) state of the art when I built it but it's a bit left behind now.

As some of you know, I had a major file corruption the day before yesterday and had to format the disk and relosd everything. Got the last of it on this morning then this afternoon "Norton" popped up to tell me I had the "Blaster F" worm!!! Of course, having to reload everything I never thought to put the security patch Mr Gates was good enough to write for us back on. Been this evening disinfecting that! I feel as if I have a target on my head at the moment.

Regards, John

Luckily I still have my old PC too !!!! I hope you have better luck with Dell than me !!

I would have told them what to do with the Pc but Dell are a good make and reliable (the pc's and not the delivery!!) so i am bearing with it.

Find a local PC shop and get them to give you a quote they will out perfome the best "DELL / IBM"  simple fact is Dell and IBM dont make PC`s they assemble then just the same as the guy down your road does except instead of by hand they have machines to do it and they charde the earth you should expect to pay between 1/3  to half the price for the most current base unit from your local shop.

or have a go at building on yourself its not hard just research it a bit on the net basic rules are buy a case with a power supply no less than 300 Watts  get a motherboard and processor and any extra graphix card / soudcard if not built on your mother board then assemble

www.ebuyer.co.uk  is a good place to start and very good at returns takes about 2 days for a swap / replacement order if damaged in transit
