3 weeks ago I was taking my 2 dogs for a walk in the park, both were off their leads as usual, when an elderly man approached with a border collie also off its lead. The man shouted to me "Can you get ur dogs on their leads because my dogs doesnt like other dogs". I shouted my dogs Saffy and Max and put their leads on but then the man didnt make any attempt to put a lead on his dog and just walked past with his dog growling at mine, mine just sat and ignored it.
2 weeks ago the same thing happened again and the man asked me to restrain my dogs again, only this time I said as my dogs were not aggressive I didnt see why I should be the one to restrain my dogs. He mumbled to himself and put his dog on a lead, I told my dogs to sit and he walked past me and once again his dog was growling.
On Christmas day my husband and I took our dogs to a local field for a run and all of a sudden Max my dalmatian ran to the edge of the field to greet a dog, all to late I realised it was the border collie and the old man, his dog was on its lead. Max just ran round the dog once and the border collie went ballistic, I called Max and he immediately returned to me. The man came up to me and said I should put my f.... dog on a lead. Well Id had enough of him by now so I said my dogs havent got a problem, his does and why should my dogs or any other dogs suffer being restrained just because of his dog. Anyway eventually my husband dragged me home seething.
Anyway today I went to the park and in the park it seems earlier this mans dog had been off its lead and turned on a terrierx, which didnt fight back, and seriously bitten it and the poor dogs now at the vets being stitched. The man with the border collie is supposed to have said it wasnt his dogs fault the other dog should have been on a lead. Then I found out that this man had been complained about so many times to the park ranger.
Some people shouldnt be allowed dogs if they dont know how to socialise them or deal with them so they arent a nusiance to others.
Anyway thats the end of my rant I had to get it off my chest. Sorry its so long.

Thanx Miloos,
Ye Saffy and Max r ok. As u know like yours my dogs just havent got an aggressive bone in their bodies, they just roll over and try to be friends with any dog and anyone, but this is down to how you socialise your dogs from being pups. I used to have an aggressive bitch called Sox whom I had rescued but I never let her off her lead in public places unless she was muzzled and there didnt seem to be any one around and even then I never let her go out of my sight. Sometimes I did feel bad that she had to be muzzled but it had to be done for her sake and mine.

Hi,
I fully agree with you in most of what you have said.
I took in a rescue BC, 11mths old, that had been severely badly used by its previous owner. He hated other dogs, although I could bring any animal into my home and he was fine with them. He also hated people.
When I walked him I made sure he was on a lead and if people had their dogs off lead I would ask if they were okay as my dog wasn't. Most times they would either hold their dog or leash it. On a few occassions owners said 'Oh! He's okay he will just walk by', needless to say a few of these dogs did not 'walk by' and then my dog was to blame.
I felt that I was being a sensible owner by telling them this. As my dog was on a lead I feel it ws up to them to keep their dog out of his reach.
When the dogs came for 'Trooper' I tried to stop him fighting but there was no way I was allowing their dog to injure him.
I think this guy should be made to keep his dog on lead or walk it at a safer time when no dogs are walked as I used to do with 'Trooper' when he wanted to run free.

I 2 feel the same, I mean its a two way thing I was prepared to leash my 2 if he did the same as I said before, but it was his arrogant attitude that he could let his dog run free whilst he told everybody to leash theirs, as I do realise on the 3rd occassion my concentration had lapsed in the field and it was my Max that approached his leashed dog, but it was his shouting at me that got my back up, swearin at me even tho i called max back (Max was just sat at the side of the field just looking at the growling dog) and max responding straight away becuase he is well trained and returned to sit at my leg so I could leash him

We had a problem with a dog that used to pin my newf pup to the floor and stand over him growling, the owner of this dog thought it was funny were as i did not.
We then avoided this dog at all costs but if it spotted charlie ( My Newf ) it would make a bee line for him even if charlie was on the lead.
The chap and the dog seemed to disapear for a year and charlie as you can imagine grew in that time to a healthy 10 stone.
We did come across this dog again and yes again it came at charlie with all teeth bared , but it ran straight in to charlie and winded itself as charlie is bulit like a brick outhouse, charlie just looked at it and walked away, but i might not have been so lucky , as charlie may have remembered this dog and had a go back, but luckly his is as dopey as a jelly.
