Hi, could do with some advice.
I have an 8 year old neutered Beardie and fate has dropped another male (Lhaso Apso size when adult) into my home.I do not want to breed with him and was going to have him neutered aswell but I have been told they are more likely to fight and compete for dominance if they are both done, than if I leave the youngster entire.
Does anyone have any experience of two males, with a big age and size difference? Am I wrong to neuter the second one?

Hi, I have two rescued border collies , both male, both neutered, I have reason to believe that the eldest dog is about 11 and the youngest is about 4, they get on extrmely well and I have no problems

If it ain't broke don't fix it. You are worrying about something that may never happen. Many of us keep males (neutered or not) together with no problems. If the dogs don't get on because of a clash of personality, nothing will make them be friends and that includes neutering.

I personally don't think it will make much difference. If you want him neuterd aswell then you should.

As others have said, if they are going to get along, they will. There can however be problems if both dogs are fond of the same resource (food, human contact, toys etc) and we often find that owners are advised to get both dogs castrated as 'that will calm them down' when all it does it lower both dogs by the same amount - they still want the same things :( I'd leave the new dog as he is - a strong owner/dog bond can help to prevent the dog wandering...........

Thanks for your comments.
I have had the pup for three months now and they both get on very well so far. They have very different characters but don't seem to clash.
I feel reassured that others have more than one male without a problem. I think perhaps that I shall give things time and see how it goes.
