Hi,

Firstly apologies for the long message but I want to give you some background on us!

We're new to this board and are looking for some advice please. We have a lovely two year old male SBT which we have had since a pup and would love another dog. My husband loves english bull terriers and desperately wants one, he has done since he was a child. We'd also like another dog for our staffie as it would hopefully make walks a lot more fun for him - he would rather stay in bed than go for walks!! He loves other dogs and is well socialized (he attended puppy introduction classes which I believe helped tremendously) and when my MIL brings her staffie to visit they have great time.

We have two young children and I am a stay at home mum so our dog is never left alone. We don't have a massive house but we do have a garden and live in the country. We obviously don't want to just go and get a puppy and then realise it was a mistake, which is why we are after some advice please.

Firstly, I believe it would be better IF we get a puppy, to get a female - is this correct?
Secondly, we would want a puppy from proper breeders as we are interested in showing the dog - I must point out that we do not want to breed as we are no way experienced enough. We are just interested in showing. Unfortunately we cannot show our staffie as he has a serious fault. I have searched the net for breeders but would like more advice regarding good reputable breeders.
Finally, would is be totally mad to have two bull breeds together?!!

Thanking you in advance for any advice

Would you not consider a bitch Staffy to show ??
We show our 14 month old boy and hope to get a girly in the future :)
I think it is wise not to get two males together as I have asked the same questions as you
Good luck :)

hi there jellybean,

my advise would be to stick with the same breed if you do intend to purchase another puppy, and yes a bitch would be advisable as you dog would not be very pleased if another male was to start marking with his scent!. Who knows you boy would probably love to go for a walk with a companion!!.
what ever sex you decide upon makes no difference to showing has there are champions of both dogs and bitches.

i have 3 sbt--2 bitches+1 dog, and they all get on fantasticly
best wishes
