How do I keep my momma basset from squashing her puppies?Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Assuming you have a pig rail, then it is a case of someone watching them 24/7 for the next 4 weeks or so. Once you start weaning then you can remove the dam for increasing longer periods and start to get some rest.

Don't have any bedding that the pups can get under, shredded newspaper is fine for the first few days if your bitch is still scratching around.

Stay with your bitch as much as practicable and keep watching
Keep Counting puppies - every couple of minutes

Yes, you will get very tired doing this at at the end of the first week when I have pups friends and family generally give me a wide berth as I get somewhat snappy but if you have a clumsy bitch there is no way around it

If you put a pig-rail in then don't rely 100% on it, pups can climb over mum and get trapped :(
