Are male puppies harder to house train than female puppies? When I had my first puppy, which was female, she was house trained pretty easily. Now I have her son out of her litter, a ten weeks old male. And he pees all over the place! His pooing actions aren't that bad, every puppy will poo in the house. But, when he pees, its only a little bit. And its everywhere. I take him outside to potty every half an hour. He usually pees outside, but only a little. Its almost as if he only lets out what he can feel. He doesn't empty his bladder completely like his mother did when she was young. So after taking the male pup outside, he is fine for a while and then when I'm not looking, he is peeing inside again. I make a loud noise and he stops and I take him right outside, where he might pee or not.

Is this a common thing with male puppies? Are they harder to house train? What can I do to help Houdini get the idea? I KNOW he is going to have accidents, but so often and yet so little amounts? Help!

In my breed I have always found that dogs were easier than bitches, but 10 weeks is very young so give it a couple more weeks and see if it improves. Your post reads as if you hove only had the 2 puppies, if so you may have been lucky with the bitch and the male is just normal.

Could not agree more Jackie. Dogs have always been generally easier than bitches with all the dog's I've ever had.

Our two litter brother Staffs (now nearly 6mths) have been like chalk and cheese to housetrain.  Beetle was as easy as pie but Marmaduke keeps regressing and likes to pee small amounts both outside and in...v.frustrating!  But 10 wks is very young to have them trained completely so keep up with the taking out every half hour or so and it should just eventually click with him.  I still keep a really close eye on Marmaduke and do take him out frequently and we haven't had an accident for a week or so now (touch wood, fingers crossed etc...sure I've just tempted fate totally there!) and am hoping my patience with has started to pay off now.

I haven't found much of a difference between the two for house training. Tiva I watched like a hawk and I kept Junior on lead got him at almost 3 months. I took Tiva out with me everytime Junior went out. With T-Bone and Dozer they went outside and followed their parents, guess they more learned from eachother, but I still always scooped them out and out we went and told them to go pee. I agree 10 weeks is way to early to expect them to be clean. Dozer took a good 8 months, T-Bone about 6 months and Tiva and Junior were about 4 months and they were asking when they had to go out.
