Hello, I'm looking for websites which lists allergy friendly breeds. I tried to look them up by myself, but all I get is infos on the Labradoodle.

Hi , there are quite a few breeds that don't moult . I am not aware of any webpages specifically designed around non moulting dogs ..but there are quite a few breeds , maybe you could look them up individually? Anyway ..the breeds include :

SOFT COATED WHEATEN TERRIER
BEDLINGTON TERRIER
POODLE
FOX TERRIER (WIRE)
YORKSHIRE TERRIER
PORTUGUESE WATER DOG
BICHON FRISE
MALTESE
AFGHAN HOUND
KERRY BLUE TERRIER
TIBETAN TERRIER

I would look into the various breeds and consider what size dog you want as well as the coat :) You should be able to find the various breeds and some notes on them here :  Kennel Club (under Discover Dogs) and some breeders and club information here : Champdogs Guided Search

Hope that helps

Melody :)

Moulting isnt what causes allergies, its the dander on a dog/cat's fur. PetalCleanse can be helpful, but really if you're allergic to dogs, its probably best not to have one. :( It's just that if you take one on and you have a reaction, or the PetalCleanse doesnt work, what will happen to the dog? :( Sorry.

Whilst not questioning what you say I still think that there must be something to do with the actual shedding as my boyfriend reacts more to shedding dogs than none shedding.  Perhaps there is more dander in shedding dogs fur??

I'm pretty sure you're right there, longer haired breeds and those that shed heavily would probably affect allergy sufferers more. However, if he is allergic to dogs even shorthaired ones will set him off. :(

The Lahso Apso (sp) is non alergenic as well :) my mother inlaw use to have one, he had a lot of character :)

There is also a product out called Petalcleanse which you spray your dog/cat with that has had very good results with allergic owners.

a friend of mines son is allergic to every dog except west highland terriers

I'm only allergic to one of my moms dogs - a OES cross but I'm NOT allergic to her sister

If your reactions are anything like my allergy to cats (sneezing, puffy eyes, tightened airways) they might be quite obvious after a short time with your chosen breed so spending some time with the breeders dogs should show if it's going to be bad or not?

IMO I think in general you are better sticking to the smoothcoated that don't require lots of grooming.

I have an allergic friend who can't tolerate smooth-coated breeds, because they generally shed so much. If she's coming round I have to Dyson everywhere twice, and she still has to sit beside an open window if she's staying more than 5 minutes!

Both my hubby and son are allergic to dog hair brings on asthma attack
niether can be in the same room for more than 5mins with in laws lab or my mothers springer,,but we have a st poodle and a yorkie and have no probs.  Other breeds you might consider are Airedales, sky and cesky terriers and the black russian terrier.

I will have to agree with with your idea of spending time with a breeder, who will usually have several of the breed in various stages of coat, but will disagree about short coated versus long.  Most allergies as has already been said is to the dander (skin) and not the coat.  Many short coated dogs actualy are worse for allergy sufferers.

I sold a Norwegian Elkhound pup 6 years ago, to a family where the wife was alergic to some dogs.  She was of Norwegian descent and had found when visiting her cousin in Norway that she did not react to his Elkhound.  she contacted a breeder here and spent most of a day with aroun half a dozen of the breed with no negative reaction.  She had both a Doberman and a Boxer in her family and reacted to both of those.

She ended up with one of my pups with whom she still has no problems 6 years on.  The dog is very precious t0 her and her son, as within the year of having the dog her husband was diagnosed with Cancer, and sadl7y died only months later.

Spanish Water DOgs too!!!  I always get people to come to my house and sit and play with the dogs and see what happens, up to now only one person has had a reaction to them.

I work in Ear, nose and throat in a hospital and sorry to say that more often than not it is the dander that people are allergic to and not the coats!!  Good luck in your search and any queries on my breed you can always e-mail me.

I have no idea what dander is (??!) but can confirm that it is possible to be allergic to any breed of dog, as it is their saliva that causes the problem. Obviously, saliva ends up on dog hair so it is reasonable to assume that long haired constant shedders are more likely to cause a problem than those that don't.

I have always been an allergic sort of person, but never to dogs. Unfortunately Cam has given me really bad asthma. It is, however, possible to manage it - it just takes a bit of thought.

Dander is skin particles (as in Dandruff) :D  As dogs do not groom to the extent that cats do, then if a person is alergic to sliva it is more likely they will be alergic to cats.  The length of the hair is not usually an issue.
