my puppy eats cat food whenever she can get the cat bowls
i want to now if it will affect her health.

I would not think so if the cats healthy and the pups healthy. Mine have always eaten each others food when the chance arises.

If it worries you feed the cats up on a higher surafce than the pup can reach.

Apart from the higher protein level cat food will not be any problem for the dog however you should not feed a cat on dog food, the odd bit of stealing is neither here or there.

Can someone please explain to my cats and dogs that the reason I BUY different foods for them is that I expect them to EAT the different foods - and not just whichever takes their fancy :D

same here the cat eat the pup and hi own and is getting fat !!! the pup did eat his but now would rather wait too steal whats left of the cat if he can, why wont he eat his own ?

Yes, my cats hate dry food for cats, but tuck into Saffys enormous biscuits!

I am so pleased to see it's not just my lot that are confused -- the cats eat the puppy food, the puppies eat the adult light if they can get it and the cat food, the adults eat cat and puppy food too not bad for someone who mostly feeds a barf diet!  I have the light for my 2 pensioners, who have now decided that going for a walk is NOT their thing anymore cheek of it, cat food for my 3 cats and most of the streets too, puppy food for my litter last of whom will leave in the new yr and of course barf for the rest ------I've caught 2 of the cats in the bag of puppy food this am, wonder if this is what is mean't by a 'balanced' diet? 

My older dog won't eat dry food unless I mix in a little cat food too - got to be tinned cat food not tinned dog :rolleyes:

I've got round the protein thing by using Tesco's really cheap cat food as this has lower protein than most of the standard dog foods! :)

Dizzy would also prefer Bakers cheap food than the Burns I paid twice the price for :rolleyes:

Just like kids really if you think about it;

Offer them the choice of a proper meal OR MacDonalds and see which they choose?

Hi guys-

I was under the impression that cats have to eat cat food rather than dog food as cat food has added Taurine, which is an amino-acid, in it which cats can't make on their own.  Dogs bodies already produce Taurine, so don't need the extra that they would get from eating cat food.
  As yet (I think!) there haven't been any tests to see what effects the extra Taurine may have on dogs, but as, in dogs it is found in its highest concentration in the retina and the myocardia (dodgy spelling), all the extra if the dog eats cat food may lead to other health problems. 
As I say, this is only what I have gleaned through reading canine nutrition articles, so it may have been updated by now.

I know Ali and I tell my three that all the time but do they listen.........Nah.......same as food all of a  sudden it takes on "that special taste" to my cats as soon as it goes in the bin, they have to try to get it out :)

Hi I'm new in this part I would like that some vary help me with this....My dog he doesn't want to eat anything only milk and that all and I'm really worrie about him because I don't want to loose him...Could you help me with this little trouble he's 1 year and 4 months almost

Feed him on chicken and rice or raw chicken for 4 days, no milk, if he is not eating by day 5 take to the vet. Don't hand feed put it down and after 20 mins pick it up.

I don't know what your dog's breed is but IMHO milk is not a suitable food in any case at any time for any dog; it is only humans that consume milk past weaning.

In any case it is not a complete food for your dog and will not promote good health.  Dogs do not starve themselves, trust me!  Remove milk from the equation, put down a small dish of dog food, if it is not consumed within 15 minutes, remove it and offer nothing until the evening and follow the same regime.  Dogs train their owners into believing that they are fussy; these are animals that eat putrid flesh, scavange bins and lick their bums after all!  please note that dogs can go several days without eating as long as they are drinking (water); they would in the wild!

What to choose:  try Burns complete (dry) or Naturediet complete (wet).

I think you might need to take him to the vets particularly if this is a recent problem, have you mentioned it to the vets in check ups, jabs etc.  Next time you go buy your wormer or flea stuff from the vets you could ask them - or just take him down.  Our vets has an open clinic on an evening and you just pop down without an appointment.

I didn't think you were supposed to give dogs or cats milk.
