No wonder you're excited Sara :)  Have you chosen a name for him yet?  Good luck and keep us posted on how he is doing! No advice either, but Jo has summed it up perfectly!

I think the biggest tip is to think why he was in rescue in the 1st place. he may have a very very strong chase/hunt instinct as most lurchers do. Be very careful of him sighting cats or small dogs. Lurchers are wonderful, so good luck! :)

Hello everyone!
His name is wheeler (as in wheeler dealer!) All went well today except we couldnt find him a coat but I'm sure we will! He wouldn't stop walking around the house and he still is (can hear his little feet go pita pata!) He was a stray and he has a really nice nature (doesn't hide things!) cant thing why any body would abandon him... All the dogs at the home were so lovely, I really hope they all get good homes soon and most of them are there because of gypsies and people abandoning them due to racing. One was there because her owner didn't like walking her in the rain (she was lovely).. what do these people think dogs are? Its disgusting (still at least she actually bought her to a home instead of leaving her on the streets) Will keep you all posted about wheeler! Merry Christmas everyone!:)

Some people would be better of sticking to a stuffed toy than a dog.

Anyway Wheeler has landed on all four of his feet it seems. Wheeler is a good name I meet a  lurcher once called "Del Trotter" as in only fools and horses. I'm sure you'll find a coat somewhere before the real winter sets in.

Good luck and enjoy walking in the rain :)

I'm soooo pleased for you.  Today on our local news there was a very sad story of a rescue lurcher that had been beaten, mistreated and doused in petrol.  He was such a gorgeous dog.  These people that do these things should have the same things done to them.  I know you will give your dog a great home and a great life.  I hope the dog on the news gets the same.  Just treat your dog the right way and he will love you forever.  Merry Christmas to you all!!!

I bought my whippet coats from www.k9coats.com the coats are lovely, are a good fit and very reasonably priced, delivery usually takes a few days. Good luck with Wheeler!

Congratulations on your new addition - I'm sure you'll have years of joy.

Re people not being fit to keep dogs, a behaviourist friend of mine had an expression he used which used to amuse me, and was part of the reason for my pup's name (China).

He used to say 'they're not fit to have a china dog on the mantlepiece'!

Thanks for all the messages and websites for coats! I will look at them all. We borrowed 1 from the home but its a bit big on him so its more of a cape than a coat! (If it was red and white instead of blue he would look very festive... can only dream!) He's been very good so far and hasn't weed/pood in the house once!:) He was sick on a pigs ear and were not sure if this was because he ate it to fast or chocked on it (or both!) It also could be because he broke his tale 2 weeks ago and he's gnawing at the plaster. He keeps giving me his ''cute look'' when I tell him to get off the chairs:(... Dogs can be so cruel!
