Hi. I have a black lab puppy who has been hacking a little bit lately. I am wonding if he has a puppy caugh or maybe just a sore throat. He doesn't do it very often, only like twice a day for the last two day. It almost sounds like he is trying to get something out of his throat and then sounds like he is about to throw up and then stops. Sometimes he will do it for about 3-4 min. I am just wondering if this is something I should be concerned about.

There is a 99% chance that this is Kennel Cough and as it is a puppy that is sick you should speak to a vet about it as they will want to be sure that the pup does not get secondary infection.

As Jackie says it is probably Kennel Cough as there is a lot around at the moment - tell the receptionist that your pup is coughing as they will probably want you to wait in the car to be seen rather than in the waiting room where it can be passed to other dogs.

Coughing is a symptom of many diseases and health problems so as yours is a pup it is probably best to get it checked out
