Hi all, my 6.5 month old CKCS pup is having her first season right now and not doing a brilliant job of cleaning herself. The carpet cleaner is coming in the morning and I really don't want her trailing blood on the carpets after they've been freshly cleaned! I'd really appreciate it if you all could share your tricks and tips on keeping things hygenic and not so messy. Thanks in advance! :)

Hi

I found with my dobie bitch that her first season was the messiest and she got better at cleaning herself as she got older. As for tricks try laying dust sheets down is the only thing I can think of. My newfie girl is coming up to 8 months so her first season could be anytime and I thank got I have got wooden floors.

You can buy pants for her, but it will only last like that a few days and she will no doubt clean herself next time. For some reason it seems to take them by suprise the first time.

Hi Jackie

I remember years ago that you could get them but I didnt realise they still sold them. Can you get them in Newfie size? Sorry cant do smilies but the thought of making husband not only change the babies nappy but the newf nappy too makes me smile.

I have Anna in season at the moment. As soon as I see she's in I cover the carpet with old sheets. I know it does not look beautiful but they are easy to wash and tumble.

Regards, John

We used childs pants on Missy (ESS) but you'd probably need grannies knickers for a Newfie ;)

Thanks to those who replied. Looks like I'll be shopping for some baby underwear in the morning. Sasha's a 5kg CKCS.. no granny knickers for her! :) What do you do when they need the toilet? Do you just watch them carefully and take it off when they need to go?

Never used them myself, but if you remove when she is outside or in the kitchen and put them on when she is in the lounge, no pants not privilages!

That sounds reasonable. Sasha learnt very quickly to wear her snood when eating so I'm sure she'll pick this up quickly too. Having sheets on the carpet isn't really an option as we don't have any, plus practically our entire house is carpeted. Mum's refusing to let her indoors while she's bleeding since we got the carpets cleaned (both dogs are sleeping on the tiled varandah tonight) so I have to come up with something pretty soon.

Oh course I meant no pants - no privilages

Well, I tried the underwear today but no luck. Even the smallest size was too large for her and it just fell off in no time. Think she'd need doll sized knickers. :( Guess the girls aren't coming inside to the carpet for a week or so.

Believe you can buy pad specialy for dogs, but don't know from where but you could start trying some of the dog supply stores.

Look what I have found knickers for bitches
