I do hope you've thought VERY carefully about the implications of getting such an active breed for a gentleman of this age......... Whilst I realise that 60 is no great age, things can change very quickly, and the Springer like many of his gundog 'relatives' remains highly active for many years...... BTW - the colour you are looking for is 'liver and white' NOT brown and white.

Just for the record some of us aged gentlemen are still capable of holding on to a lead particulaly if we wrap it around our zimmer frame!
John :(
Does your uncle know that he is getting a puppy for his birthday? A dog should never be bought without the agreement of the eventual owner. In addition, if he is a knowledgeable springer owner, he is likely to be far better placed to find a puppy from a good breeder than someone without knowledge of the breed.
As digger says, springers stay very active for years. I know of an old couple (10 years older than your uncle) with an adult rescue, but they walk their dog at least 2 hours a day, every day. Perhaps your uncle would consider an older rescue - there are unfourtunately loads in rescue.

LOL @ John , anyone who knows you john know you are a very fit man for dare I say it ? your age lol Im in my early fifties and if someone told me I wasnt fit to have a dog my reply would be unrepeatable.
I do however get people asking to adopt a dog when they are 80 and refuse and older dog insisting on a pup then I draw the line, but 60 ? that is just in your prime. :) :) :)

may I aslo politely point out that John and my husband sam who is considerable older than john he is 64 still goes to work everyday does a demanding job even though he is not in the best of health and never sits down till 9 at night always on the go,he puts my young sons to shame with his stamina, John I know for a fact works very hard and at weekends takes a training class and in season picks up at the local shoot walking several miles at a time. Digger think you need some age related lessons LOL :) :)

Some years ago an old lady started at my club with a young puppy. She said, "You might think me wrong but i'm 80 and I've had a dog since I was 12 years old. When my old one died I thought I was too old to have another but I found I could not live without a dog. I have arranged for a friend to take her if anything happens to me so I have gone ahead and go one." I told her I was 100% in agreement. We do not retire to bed to die when we get older. We enjoy our lives just as we always did. We now train with out brain rather than our brawn and live our lives to the full with our dogs beside us.
