I've just taken my lab pup for his first injections, and the Vet asked me what he was fed on. He'd never heard of Autarky and asked me what the calcium content is. I admitted that the analysis on the packaging doesn't actually specify, but that the food was specifically for working type dogs.
He said that it was very important to feed these dogs food with a low calcium content, as it has been shown to prevent osteochondriatis (sp?). He asked me to find out before our next appointment, which I will endeavour to do. He also recommended Eukanuba large breed puppy, and needless to say I left with a sample of Hills large breed puppy.
My bitch seems to be doing well on Autarky, and I've weaned the pups on it from 3 weeks and they love it and are thriving. However, his remarks have worried me. Has anyone any more information on this issue?

Thank you very much, Kath, that's exactly what I needed to know. Very helpful indeed.

You're welcome Cathy. :) I'd be interested to hear what the vet says, They do like to "prescribe" their expensive foods, don't they. ;) :D I've only used Autarky once as I can't get hold of the big sacks locally. I was impressed with it.

Kath, give Autarky a ring, they will soon tell you just where you can get large bags locally and will be very helpful. I found them amazing to deal with.

Ooh great, thanks Jacky. :)
