I recently rehomed my two dogs with my breeder due to no fault of mine and my dogs.  It was agreed that my dogs would be rehomed and any thing left after her expenses were taken out would be returned however if they wernt rehommed by Feb they would be rehommed through a rescue.  However I just found out that one has been rehomed already free and there are plans to give my other 6mth old dog away again free to somone who cant afford to buy a dog.  would you say this is reasonable?

I think it is very reasonable.
The breeder is looking for a loving forever home for her pups and it is refreshing to hear that she is more interested in the welfare of the pups than their monetary value.

Hi
Yes this is reasonable for the following reasons-
We had one of puppies bought back to us at 7 months old due to her owner divorce
In order to find a suitable home for her we interviewed and visted six people spaced all over the country I also had to worm her and she was vaccinated a precaution as her previous owner couldnt produce the vaccination book ,I also spent hours chasing up her KC documents.
we charged the owners a minumal fee to cover my costs and the previuos owner didnt recieve any payment,in situations like this the dogs welfare is the only concern and payment shouldnt be a issue.:)

The one thing that would concern me is that if the new owner cannot afford to pay for the dog how will they afford to feed it and pay for vets fees etc ??

In my personal experience an older puppy or adult dog when rehomed is usually homed free.  There will usually be quite a lot of work and adjusments that the new owner will have to make.  when they buy a pup they get a clean sheet, with a rehome/rescue they are taking on baggage, and don't usually expect to pay for it.  the only time any of my rehomed pups have had money change hands is where the new owner and old owner having been put in touch with each other by me and have come to an amicable agreement.

The ones I have taken in myself have usually gone tthorugh my network of dog contacts to someone who cannot afford to pay for a pup, or wouldn't buy one as always home rescues.

If I had a pup under 6 months back then I might ask for something for it, and after taking off reasonable expenses would pass any surplus on to the old owner, but this has never happened to me.  They usually come back when they are less than lovable adolescents, or as full adults.

As has been said before I am grateful to find the right knowledgeable home without expecting payment.
