My parents have a PBGV - she is on her second season. She was playing today and as she threw her toy around she was in the crouch position and wet herself. She looked really surprised that she had done it. It seems she has been "dribbling" occasionally for a couple of days although she is dry through the night. She does not seem to be in any discomfort and when she does wee appears to be in no pain. She was not like this on her first season. She is not pregnant ( unless a dog scaled the wall, did the deed and disappeared in seconds ) and it seems involuntary rather than scent marking in the house. Overall she is her usual happy self and is eating and drinking normally. She is not asking to go out anymore than usual to relieve herself. Any ideas ??? I own a dog so am not up to speed with bitches problems.
Thanks, Sara

Hi, my girls do wee, smaller amounts much more often when in season, and as they stop this when the season finishes with no ill effects I assume its ok. Perhaps the general laxness of the area, makes the bladder muscles lax too.

I have found that the only time my bitches over the years have had accidents, say when left for a few hours or once or twice over night, that this coincided with them being in season, thats 5 bitches over 13 years! I think the hormones either stop them holding on so well, or they produce more urine, like pregnant women.

Have also found this will happen even when the bitch is spayed at around the time she would have been in season. they usualy clean themselves up so it may not be noticed, but somtimes they have an full blown accident, particulaly if excited. JH
A friend's Basenji is currently doing this and it turns out she has a urine infection. She had great fun trying to get a sample to test :-)

Chris, I once had to resort to putting down one of those large plastic sheets such as they use for painting in the back garden in an effort to get a urine sample and then gather it up so that the 'pool' could be funneled into a container. And that was after several episodes of walking behind her with a container in my hand trying to 'catch' her as she urinated! Darn good thing it was in the States and houses are far apart there or the neighbors would have definitely called in the men in the little white coats to take me away for a restful vacation!
It's definitely easier with males.

How do you manage a male sample? Fortunately I have yet never had to get a sample, I would find it a nightmare as mine curtsey so low!

Not only that Brainless our breed consider it a down right insult. JH

**chuckling** you need to be either VERY quick with a cup. Or resort to putting the plastic around the base of the tree and up the tree a bit. At least with males they tend to urinate whenever they go outside which is not always the case with females. In either event it is a nightmare for those of us who have to get samples. I know with a dalmatian that I showed they finally resorted to catherizing him.

My parents had a diabetic cocker spaniel and had to 'dip' her urine everyday so they could adjust her insulin injections.
Dad used to follow her around the garden with a CLEAN plant pot saucer and as she squatted down he slipped it under her bottom and let her wee on it. He never ever missed, even the first few times and Bess never seemed bothered by what he was doing. Mind you, she wasn't concerned by the twice daily injections either.

Can I call on your dad if I ever need to get a urine sample from my crew? **winking**

When I was a kid, our Pembroke Corgi had a UTI - Mum was asked to get a sample from her, so she duly followed the dog into the garden with a foil pie dish, got the sample first try - or so she thought! The pie dish had small holes in the bottom for crisping the crust - all the precious sample dribbled out over Mum's feet! <G>
