Hello there chihuahua owners,  I have a chihuahua bitch (AKC registered, from north america, just a pet) that i'd like to breed but there don't seem to be many chihuahuas here in the UK -- can anyone help?  I'm in Warks. between Coventry and Rugby.  My bitch weighs 4 1/2 pounds.  Many thanks for any suggestions or connexions!

There are lots of Chi's in UK, and in fact a few have been winnining top honours at this years Championship shows.

If you go on the Kennel Club website you can download a form to register your bitch with the Kennel Club.  On the left go down to forms, and you will see a list of forms.

Also you will be able to find a list of breed clubs if ypou go on the discover dogs section and search under Chihuaua.  they are recognised as two seperate breeds in the UK long coazt and Smooth (o9r is it shortcoat?).  If you then contact the breed club and visit shows, making contact wiht breeders, they will be able to give you an idea if she is of breeding quality, as you should only really breed to maintain/improve the breed :D

There is a very big Championship coming up at the NEC and Toy breeds are on Friday 12th December.

LKA Show (NEC) doesn't have CC's on offer for Chi's so there won't be that many Chi people there - the next 'biggie' in Manchester - 17th Jan at Stafford, then UK Toyday (also at Stafford) in March.

4 ½ lbs is borderline (in my own opinion, too small)  for brood size - 5 lbs upwards is better.  Also the American type is generally a bit different from the UK type, so depending on what you've got it could be difficult to reproduce the same type with a UK stud dog - if that's what you want to do.

Good Chi folk can be very choosy about what bitches their dogs are used on, because there is so much 'back street breeding' going on amongst those who simply want to make a bit of money - so if you approach a decent breeder re: using their dog, be prepared to answer a lot of questions!  In fact, if they don't ask questions you should be worried!!!

Lastly, I trust your bitch is free of hereditory problems - patella luxation, incorrect mouth/bite etc. etc. ?

Sorry - bad typing in last message - shows to look out for are Manchester general Championship. Show which is to be held at Bingley Halls, Stafford (Chihuahuas on 17th Jan) and UK Toydog champ. show (same place) in late March. Manchester will be Longcoats only, but UK Toydog will have both.
