I'm finding it a nightmare to get toys for my 3 Staffs that will not be destroyed in just a matter of minutes! Their absolute favourite toys are squeaky ones (oh joy!) but they just rip them apart and I panic they'll find the squeak and eat it so can't give them those anymore. They don't really go for rubber balls, kongs etc; ropes they love but they're also too edible and easily destroyed; those hard, plastic, flavoured bone things (hope u know what I mean!) they do like but also are pretty much mangled in a couple of days and now I've totally run out of ideas...does anyone have any suggestions?
I did buy the bitch an "Indestructaball" (sp?) but guess she didn't read the label :-) and destroyed it and the inside is full of horrible sand stuff which I'm sure can't be safe for dogs so needless to say, won't be buying one of those again!
Somebody somewhere must have designed interesting toys for bully breeds...

Sorry, but my only suggestion is a kong but if your dogs don't like them I'm not sure have you tried a motorbike tyre? Sal has one hanging form the tree in the garden she loves to swing on it.
Karen
Thanks for the suggestion Karen...have often wanted to hang a tyre for them to swing on cos the bitch just loves swinging on trees, ropes...infact, anything she can get her jaws round when out walking but we've got nowhere in the garden to hang things from which is annoying!
What toys has Sal got and how quickly does she destroy them?
the company that make nylabones and gumabones (company of animals i think) also make something called 'hercules elbow' not exactly the same but its the only thing that has stood up to my lab and spaniels, but i have spoken to people with staffies and they find that these last a bit longer, the only danger with hard balls is that if your dog likes to throw things or decides that thay like to throw things windows and toes and the like become broken
http://www.volsung.co.uk/Nylabones.htmnot the company that makes them but shows pictures of the products
Thanks for that link, I think I'll be looking out for some of those toys! A bit off topic, but aren't those Rotties in that link beautiful! Never had a Rottie but they certainly are stunning...
they were werent they :) my puter wouldnt bring up company of animals said couldnt be displayed, so did another search and that was the first page, lovely dogs rottis, completely off the subject (and ill prob get shot for sayiny it :) ) but has any one else noticed how much a rottweiler looks like a lab if you look at it from the back? the chunky labs that is
They do don't they??!! I know, I'll probably be shot by Rottie and Lab owners...gorgeous dogs, definitely.

My Dalmatian destroyed the red kong, but the black (extra strong) has stood up to him for over two years now.

Tesco's have something very similar to a Kong. My Lydia whose teeth can go through anything hasn't put a dint in her cheap Kong lookalike. She managed to break up large bones previously so I'm well impressed :d

Have to say what a brilliant Website that is!!

If, like me you NEED indestructable toys, owning Border terriers forces you to search high and low! Well I have one thing to say .............................. COCONUTS!!!!!!!! They work a treat!

The ONLY truly indestructable toy I have found for my breed is the black Kong. Oh & nylabone, but they get bored pretty quickly with them.

sorry just a quick reply .you can use anything really not just soaked dry food, ie there fave treats /cheese/ dog meat from a tin ,anything your dogs like your best bet is to get a black kong stuff it full and leave in the freezer over night . i got the idea from monkey world the use them for the great apes and stuff them with fruit ect and seal the end with a parsnip.brill idea ,it takes them ages to get anything out ! you can also get hard plastic balls that have a small hole that drops food as its rolled around the floor ,and if you get one big enough they cant bite of chew it ,verry annoying at 6am tho lol
After Rio ate his kong I removed all rubber toys from his vicinity unless he was actually with me and I could see how much he is chomping it (the girls still get them). I had had a Boomer Ball for years but he could not pick it up as it was too large, he kept trying and can now open his jaw enough to pick it up but needs to use his paw to get it out again, he chews at it, carries it around, uses it as a cannon ball when he is trying to get you to throw it for him and so far has lasted a couple of years.
It is getting some tooth marks (scrapes) in it now so may need replacing at some point but is the longest lasting toy my auto-destruct-machine has ever had.
For the owner who wanted to use tyres - don't forget they have wire in them
Christine
Thanks for all the brill suggestions...like the one about freezing food in the Kong - will give that a go.
Also, fascinating suggestion about the coconut...do you just hand it to them whole or chop in half?! Sorry to sound a bit thick! Next time I'm in Tesco I'll see if I can get a couple of those too (hmm...are they in season right now...)

Hi Juliet.
I just punch a hole in them and drain the milk out, then strip off the excess stringy bits. Try it, great fun and I think you can get them all year round.

Hi Juliet,
With regard to the tyre, before I had a garden with a tree, I used a childrens swing frame for the tyre (removed the swing) and secured the tyre. Brilliant as long as you fix down the swing frame properly first.
