Hello Phil and Val
First of all, please forgive me if you already know the things I tell you! If you haven't yet discovered it, please have a look
Here at the Italian Spinone Club of Great Britain website. This will be a valuable source of information for you on all aspects of the Spinone. It also has a superb database of photos of individual dogs which can be seen by looking at the Show Results for Championship Shows and clicking on the dog's name in the results. If you click on the happy dog face beside the dog's name you will get info on it, plus its pedigree and a record of its show successes. You will also be able to find the name and email address of the member who holds the puppy register under "About the Club" and then "Committee Members".
LKA at Birmingham has approx. 90 Spinoni entered, so you will see a good selection of them! If you purchase a catalogue you will be able to track down the breeders you are interested in by their dog's entry number, plus see other examples of their breeding under different ownership. Everybody will be very happy to speak to you and answer any questions you have, but please bear in mind often people prefer to chat after their dogs have been in the ring as it can be a busy time getting the dogs ready to go into the ring, plus nerves etc!! Spinoni are in Hall 3/3a, ring 25 and judging starts at 9.30am. LKA is a lovely show, very happy, and I think you will enjoy it.
Also, it would be great if you could manage along for Gundog day at Crufts as there will be an even bigger entry there! Spinoni are a lovely breed, but they are not for everyone, so be prepared for in depth questioning from the breeders as they will want to be sure that its the right breed for you. Tcarlaidh says stock up on hankies - I'd go further than that, start acquiring beer towels from the pub, bigger and more absorbent than hankies :D
I wish you all the best in your search for a Spinone puppy, and if you would like to ask more questions, join the forum and we'll all be pleased to help you :)
