What age should pups be before you can start to cut their food from 4 times a day to 3?

Usually about 12 weeks.

Thanks for that. Meant to ask also when they get cut down to 2 meals a day?
around six months or when they start not eating the whole of one of their meals
Christine

I dread putting my rough collie to 2 meals as it will be 2 meat & she loves her rice pudd

I'm getting two pups on Sunday, and have been told by the breeder to only feed them twice a day. They will be 9 weeks old.

I would personally disregard anything that breeder tells you! Get a good book about the breed and follow that instead. Generally the Ringpress "Pet Owner's Guide to ..." books are very good.

I was going to anyway - I've spent months researching the breed I've chosen (Cavalier) and ages picking a breeder, she is the only one I've met that I've felt comfortable with. This is the only thing she's said that I disagreed with. I will also look for a book.
Thanks Jean

No puppy of 9 weeks of any breed could eat what they required in just 2 meals. A pup of 9 weeks needs about twice what an adult requires, and their stomachs are tiny, so it is easy to understand that you need to feed more than the 2 meals you will be feeding the adult.

I would also be rather wary of a breeders knowledge if they only feed baby pups twice a day. From that I have been told toy breed pups are oftehn started on up to 6 meals a day!

And sells 2 pups from the same litter!

Want to correct something - the pups are not from the same litter. They have come from the same breeder. One pup is 6 days older than the other, and no, she didn't have 2 bitches breeding at the same time. One pup (the older one) is from her dog and bitch. The younger one is from her other dog and a bitch of a friend of hers. I have seen and spent time with all 4 parents, 3 grandparents and a great-grandma, as well as the pups.
I am satisfied that the health check documents I saw were valid - she gave me her vets number in case I felt the need to check anything out with him.
After posting my original note (re twice a day feeds) and then reading the replies and a book, I felt uneasy so I rang her to ask her opinion on it.
It appears we had a misunderstanding - which is feasible as there was so much said and going on during the 5 hours we were there. She gives them two MEAT meals a day and different stuff for breakfast and supper.
I am so glad I rang her back, as some of the comments made (which I glad they were) had me worried that I'd made a mistake in my choice of breeder, when everything else felt so right about her.
Thank you all.
