Hi there
a couple of questions on my new puppy?
(a) took him to the vet on first day and he was checked for fleas/mites etc and absolutely clean but he is constantly scratching - near ears and hind... he stops in the middle of play and has a good 2 min scratch without fail
(b) he also bites his back paws a lot... i read somewhere that this could be a neurotic trait.
(c) worming - gave him 1/2 tab in his feed (crushed and mixed in) BUT he didn't finish dinner... should i assume now he hasn't been wormed properley and repeat procedure.?
Im new to this so tips gratefully recieved.
thanks so much.

More likely to be a food or environmental allergy rather than neurosis at this age.

He may have a dry skin or allergic reaction to something either in his food or environmental (many dogs can't tolerate carpet freshners and similar products)
I wouldn't repeat a worming dose without vet advice - worming tablets are very strong medication.

Hi guest, my four month old Lab has had the same problem since we collected him but as you i am also new to this dog owner thing. i read it could be food related i have changed his food gradually over the last 10 days and hey presto scratching has stopped. (no more sloppy poos either) thank god!!!!!

My last puppy scratched & scratched & scratched, not something I'd ever come across before in my breed. Once she'd been thoroughly wormed she stopped!!
Should contact your vet re: reworming.

Hi guest.. Welcome to the worrying world of puppies! I am neurotic about anything unusual with Milo. Most of the time it turns out to be nothing, or I find the solution on this website! Milo also scratched a lot when we first got him, so much so we took him to the vets to have his ears checked over. There was nothing wrong with him, and the scratching did lessen with time. However, when we changed his food (he was n Beta puppy and had a dusty coat) to Burns - no more scratching, and better poos!. The wonders of decent food!
