Topic Dog Boards / Health / early morning cough and exercise

My 5 month old lab puppy has had for the past week a loud barking cough (no joke meant) when she wakes up and when she starts to runs around, but apart from the odd few times this is the only times she coughs. She has also has a snotty (sorry) grey discharge from her nose but only first thing in the morning. She is fine in herself, eating and drinking as usual but does seem a bit quiet, but this may be me imagining this because all this talk of K/C has got me worried. Shall I keep observing her or pop her along to the vet for a check up to be safe.

Sounds like she may have kennel cough, and with that discharge, a course of anti-biotics would be appropriate.  Don't take her into the waiting room though, ask the vet to come to the car, the risk of infection is HIGH!  She should also NOT be exercised in the presence of other dogs while she is coughing.  Hope she makes a swift recovery.
