For my dads birthday I treated him to something a bit special (because he has spent the last 4 months renovating my house ;)  ) its a day off roading at Belvoir Castle in Lincolnshire (tanks, landrovers, hovercrafts etc :D )  Anyway as Lincoln is quite a trek from us (we are in Hampshire) I thought I could treat my mum and dad to a weekend break somewhere within reasonable distance to the venue (as a christmas pressie).  I wanted a nice hotel (something with character) either in a quaint little town /village or out in the middle of nowhere, they love country walks and also pottering around individual shops.  Ive looked on the net and have sent off for a couple of brochures but nothing seems to have that "special" tweek to it that im looking for :)

It doesnt have to be in Lincolnshire but maybe within an hours drive.  If anyone has any suggestions or personal recommendations I would be most greatful :)

Thanks

Claire :) :)

It is ..but Lincs and Leics are very close at that point ..not too sure that Lincoln is the closest large town ..would Newark not be closer (desperately trying to remember the roads around that way ....we pass a sig for Belvoir castle on the way to Nottingham I think)

You are right, in the book it says Lincolnshire but on the map it looks more like Leicestershire. :)

Yes Melody, Its on the road between Grantham and Nottingham. A52.(I think)
It is actually within 1/2 hours drive of Grantham, so you would probably be better looking there. There is a de vere hotel just outside Grantham, But very expensive. If you need any more help just shout and I can give you more information.
BTW< how did you get him into a day off roading?????? We want to do that for me dad, didnt  realise there was somewhere soclose.

Thanks, ill look on the net for hotels in Grantham, im not too bothered about the expense - they have both done so much for me this year (and put up with so much for the past 26 years :D :D  )

I found the off roading on the net (www.buyagift.co.uk ) It looks like excellent fun, im quite jealous actually I wouldnt have minded doing it myself :)  For my dads 60th we bought him a day rally driving in shropshire, I booked up at the last minute and went with him what a fantastic day and I came 4th out of about 15 men :D :D  certainly wiped the smiles of their faces, they thought it was a wind up me being female (I always wanted to be a proffesional rally driver :(  ), they soon stopped making chest comments though when they realised I was with my dad

Thanks for your help, if I cant find a hotel ill shout you

Well, my mum is now £200 worse off!!!!!
She just booked the day at Belvoir castle for my dad for xmas and wedding anniversary present!!!!!!!
Thankyou for the link!!!!
If you do a serch for De Vere hotels, you will find them. But you should find some really nice country hotels/B&B's around Grantham. I live about 15 miles away, so dont tend to look for hotels LMAO
