Hello all
Just wondered if any of you could offer any advice or info. I have two boxers a girl six months and a ten month boy. My girl has started to loose patches of her hair, she has several bald patches around her body. She has an appointment at the vet for tuesday but just wondered if any of you may know what is causing it.She is very fit and healthy in every other way .
Could her diet be the problem? i currently feed both of them pedigree puppy complete, they have had this since they came to me at 8 weeks. They also have tripe and oily fish (sardines
tuna) which they love. Is it one of the signs of her coming into season? she has gone off her food a little over the last couple of days and is a little quieter than usual and very clingy to me.  Thanks in advance for any info.

Hairloss can be caused by a number of conditions.
When you have her checked over by the vet they may want to do blood
tests if they do get them to check for T4 (Thyroid). Hypothyroidism can cause a dog
to go quiet and can cause hairloss.
Boxers can suffer from seasonal alopecia, but that's normally symmetrical (i.e. both sides
and the same hairloss)
The vets may do skin scrapings to see if it could be mites.
Also they may check her for ringworm (fungal infection) by putting an ultra violet lamp over her body.
At 6 months old I'd be surprised if she was coming into season, as the earliest I've had a bitch  inseason was 9 months of age.
But this doesn't mean to say she isn't, she may be more advanced hormonally. Which could be the cause.
Best get it checked out with your vet, who should be able to find what the problem is.

My dog went to the vet's last week with a similar sounding thing - his balding patches are just on his outer thigh areas and slightly higher though - two patches same place each side.  Also licking his inside front legs excessively - hair starting to thin there. Like your dog, he is fit and healthy every other way. The vet said being just the legs, that's usually the area affected if it's a food allergy.  Has got a week of steroids, and I'm changing his food as well.  What I just find a bit odd is how the patches seem to be identical places on either side of him, but when I asked the vet, he didn't really have an answer!
