My 14 week old cocker spaniel is on JWB, but has always been a very slow eater, he seems to pick throughout the day and doesn't eat nearly the quantity stated on the bag. I realise this is just a rough guide but I do worry he isn't eating enough (he looks fine). Today I decided to soak the JWB in warm water before I gave it to him and he woolfed it down, my first question, is this OK for him and do you think I should wait until his second teeth come through before trying the JWB dry again? My second question is, can anyone advise my on a cocker spaniels weight (just a rough estimate, I realise each dog is different) at 4 months, I've checked my books but can't see anything about weight.
Many thanks for your help. :)

I agree with the water. Much easier for them to eat than dry food on its own. I always start off with soaking in water. They dont need anything like scrambled eggs etc with the meal. If you want to give him it, fine, but they do not NEED it. Aslong as you have a good quality dried food, it does not matter. Not sure about JWB, sorry. Are you only giving him JWB, and how many times a day?
EDITED to say- does your vet not give free monthly weight checks?
Hi Jax,
It's a long time since mine (Springer) was a pup so not sure about amounts, but if he's happy and healthy I would imagine he's OK. I don't feed JWB but I do feed mine with water or gravy on sometimes for a change. I think it will be OK to soak it but see what others think too. :) This might help you to compare, this one weighed 13lbs at 4 months....

Hi,
I feed JWB using puppy and adult on all my goldens and add water, soaking in water or just adding water and giving straight away is fine and alot of dogs prefer that,if hes happier when hes older to have it dry thats fine to, just make sure they have good access to drinking water all the time.

Hi, Jax
Don't know if this helps but my 15 week cocker bitch weighs seven and a half kilogrammes. I fed JWB for a while and always soaked it in a little warm water for about 10 mins before feeding, but Jess really went off it and her poos were quite lose on it so I changed her onto naturediet puppy. I was feeding the turkey and rice JWB puppy, incidentally my mum has the littermate of my pup and her poos were never solid on it either. My mum has recently changed her pup onto Burns mini bites and the change is unbelievable. She wolfs it down every meal now and small firm stools!!!!
Feeding it wet is fine, my mum soaks the Burns also. While they're teething its probably easier on the gums
