Topic Dog Boards / Breeding / 14 months and a litter?
- By kazz Date 23.11.03 17:38 UTC
Today in the park I was watching my nieces roller blading, and I meet a couple with a Stafford bitch who's a month older than Sal I've seen them before but their bitch I must say is very aggresive to other dogs regardless of sex/breed. So I usually keep my distance. But today because I had no dog they came over, and the gist is they are mating their bitch when she comes in season, to be honest for a moment I though they had another bitch.

But it seems not she will be about 13-14 months old then. I asked about health checks ie PHPV & HC but they said the dog had had them so it didn't matter

Asked about the sire and it seems they have the choice of two, one untried aged about 9 months who they meet outside Tesco's :( (that mating sounds like it would be a nightmare unexperienced owners and dogs) or an older dog who's 10 :( (who I know is just used by people who are taken in by the fact his sire is a well known champ, he is an average example of the breed although he is a nice family dog, they now charge £200 for the stud)

From what I could figure out they were 80% certain they were going to use the younger dog because he is closer to home ie 10 miles as to 25 miles:eek:

They had no idea about the pedigree of the younger dog. But THINK he is KC registered:mad:

They even asked if I wanted the names/phone numbers so I could use them on Sal.....I had to walk away I didn't say anything at all.

What I need is a reasoned set of answers for when I see them again. Anyone

Idiots!

Can you lie and say that there is a strange condition that has appeared in pups when two particular 'lines' have been crossed? That ("Isn't it awful?" - tongue in cheek) the breeders of these pups have been taken to court and lost a lot of money because of it? Have they made certain that these particular lines aren't in the stud dogs and their bitch?

It might possibly get them thinking.

Quite honestly I think you would be wasting your breath, Karen. You could try asking them what they would do if the one of the pups developed a hereditary disease & sued them. Some people can only see reason through ££££££££££££££££££s.

I think you may be right ££££££££££££££ just spoke to Ben better half ;) (he thinks) he recalls talking to the man before and he remembers the man saying the bitches litter mates were equally "nasty" to other dogs. That can't be good to start with. I thought it was just her, but seems not.

They did tell me today they thought the going rate was about £500 a pup!!!!!!!!!!!!!! What is the world coming to. Staffords are superb animals and in my opinion the Best Dogs in the world, but after talking to them I can see why people call out to me as I walk "Is she safe" and some won't let theirs play with Sal.

None caring breeders, unstable breeding stock and stupid owners are a disaster to any breed and it seems my breed has a lot of all three  It sometimes feels we are going back to the 80's when bad breeding was in evidence everywhere. I just wish we could return to when few people had ever heard of them.

A very fed up Karen

Staffy pups can cost £500 but they are from good lines and have good pedigrees and showing records - not just from someone they met outside Tesco's
its just money to them isnt it - they arent interested in anything else. :(
Unfortunately there always will be people like that . I say people because i cant call them breeders as they arent
Afraid I would have had to say something about her age though!! :(
idiots

Difficult to do, when you are faced with the situation though Lel. Hindsight is a great thing. As I walked away I thought of loads to say. And I agree about the price, but I see them week in week out advertised in "Bargain Papers" priced between £350-£550 and they must be selling. But who to is the question.

I suppose to the novice the more expensive pup probably means a better bred pup but we all know this isnt true! :(

Me and Stu were talking hypothetically the other week about if someone were to approach us about breeding from Gus ( it has happened recently to someone we know) .
I said I would want to know everything about the bitch and where she came from , who she was bred from etc etc
you would think he was my son and not my dog :)
No ones good enough for my boy :D
