My girlfriends dog will not walk with me. She is a Lhasa Apso and will not walk if it is only me trying to walk her. As soon as one other person is there she is happy to go where I want her to go, but if alone she will wander around in circles never going further than about 50 yards from the house. It means she misses going to the park (which she loves) which is about three hundred yards away.
What can I do to get her to respond to my call and walk where I want her to?
Thank you

The obvious answer is to put her on a lead - but you can also make yourself more interesting company by taking some nice treats out with you in your pocket like little pieces of cheese or something tasty and a bit smelly so she knows you have them on you and is more likely to follow you.
If she's playful you could also tease her with a toy and take that with you to play with :)

Sorry, I should have said. She always is on a lead - except in the park. If I want her to go anywhere I have to drag her which obviously I don't like doing. If I carry her somewhere she'll walk back with me, but I don't want to carry her around as that negates the point of taking her for a walk.
She is such a fussy eater that I'm not sure what treat would work. She will always go for chocolate, but won't touch dog chocolates.
As for toys, she gets bored pretty quick.
Any other ideas?

Frankfurter (hotdog) sausages are usually popular!

Hi Greg
I don't know if this might be the same, but My westie never wanted to go out for walks - with me or anybody! It would take us about half an hour to walk about four hundred yards as she would lie down, refuse to move, beg to be carried and basically be a complete pain. She even ran away when she saw the lead coming out. She's only a puppy and we used to live on quite a busy road, I would have to carry her there, but she'd be absolutely fine on the way back - when she knew she was going home.
Since we moved to a quieter place and she's got a bit braver she's been absolutely fine and now she loves her walks! So I was thinking, maybe it's a security thing? If she's not used to going out without her owner then maybe she feels unsure and a bit frightened? On the way back, she obviously knows she's going back to her nice safe house so that may be why she walks back ok. I'm no expert but Molly has improved no end since she's realised I won't let anything get her, so I would say persevere with the walking and use the treats like the other post suggests and give it time.
