I am interested in an Akita puppy. How do I find an reputable breeder? I see a few on the list but do not know where to start... Some come across as very "ABOVE THE REST" and cannot say anything nice about their counterparts...I just want a healthy Akita puppy.

I would start by doing my 'homework' What health tests are required for the breed and what are acceptable results.Maybe phone the breed club and speak to the secretary for general advice and maybe a pointer in the right direction for a good breeder.
All breeders have pet quality pups even if they are very well known and respected.I would beware anyone who said that all there pups are show quality...to me it would mean they don't know as much as they should.Go to a well respected 'show' breeder and ask for a pet quality pup...parents will have had all health test necessary and pup will be of good quality.The thing is they don't cost any more most of the time that 'joe bloggs' down the road putting his bitch to the nearest male available..you will also get 'after sales' help

ps I would also go with a breeder who I felt comfortable with and who we're willing to discuss the breed and answer my questions
