Topic Dog Boards / Breeding / Azoospermic stud dog..any ideas?

I have a male dog that I've planned to have as stud dog for my kennel. He's a stunning representative of his breed, with an awesome pedigree, incredible looks, and just the perfect temperament I'm looking for. His breeder supports having him as a stud, and so I started with all the proper health tests 3 months ago, in order to fully check his suitability. His patellas/eyes/heart/bone density are perfect and he has not a sign of epilepsy or any other similar disease...BUT he seems to be almost completely azoospermic! They only found around 5 dead sperms in his sample! We were shocked! He's 3 years old, a very healthy, fit, active boy, he eats very well, his testicles look normal in size and shape (and consistency too)...he goes crazy when he's near a girl in heat (his libido is very high), so now we are really dissappointed, because he was actually chosen as the perfect mate for one of my girls :( There wasn't a probable reason for this (no previous medications, not a heat stroke..), but the vets thought it was probably caused by an urinary infection, so he had to take an antibiotic (amoxicillin/clavulanic acid) for 3 weeks, and then they told us they would re-check him two months after taking the medicine. The time has passed, and now that he was checked again..still nothing. His ejaculate (normal volume) is clear as water! His vet will only suggest us some herbolary remedies (chinese medicine)...but he says no other test would be helpful. I was thinking on running some other tests as well.. maybe to check his hormones levels or an ultrasound? His thyroid seems to be working fine...but should I re-check it just in case? Any ideas on what else could be the cause...or how to know if this will be a permanent issue, or if there's something we can do??? We have an appointment with another vet in a month (he's very very busy), but I wish there was something we could do sooner. Thank you!

I knew a Show Champion Irish Setter that picked up an infection from a bitch, and was rendered sterile, permanently.
He'd had offspring before this though, but only 2 or 3 litters.

:( Well, I hope it won't be the case, but it's possible. He has never been bred from, and apparently he didn't have any bacterias in his reproductive tract, just a few E. coli in his urinary bladder (the vets didn't really think this was a serious infection...as E. coli is found there often).... let's see if anything works! Thanks for your reply!
