The vet I took Dougie to sent him to Corydon Indiana to a specialist and they ran the dye thru him today. I went and stayed with him; they thought they could still help him. After that was finished the specialist came out to talk with me. Dew has three ruptured disks and surgery probably would not help him and he chose not to take the risk. He put him back on steriods and said to keep him quiet as much as possible. He doesn't know if he will recover and if he does just how much. I am suppose to take him back next Wed. Please everyone say a little doggie prayer for him. I just can't bear to lose my little boy. I don't know what I would do without him, I feel I let him down somehow so please please help pray for him. Diana
So sorry Diana. Praying and sending positive, healing thoughts. :)
I hope all goes well.

I am so sorry to hear that the news is not good for Dougie.
There is still hope that he will recover. My boy Cooper, was completely paralysed in the back end, in February of this year. My vet told me it was very unlikely that he would recover without surgery, and I felt the surgery was too much risk (he is nearly 13 years old, and he is on medication for fluid in the lungs, so in my opinion surgery was not an option) We made the decision that we would do whatever we can, but in the event of total paralysis we would care for him for the rest of his life.(I am retired, and home with the dogs all day, so I have time to devote to his care) We kept him crated for 8 weeks, and there was very little improvement in that time. He could stand, but had no control over the movement of his back legs, so if he tried to take a step he would fall. I heard about the benefits of Ester C supplements. I mentioned it to my vet, who was very sceptical, but he said it couldn't hurt if I wanted to give it a try. I started Cooper on 250mg per day, and gradually built it up to 1000mg per day, and within two weeks, he was walking again! (My vet feels the improvement was not connected to the Ester C, but I am convinced) He can now walk, although a bit wobbly, and he can run if he wants to! He is in no pain, and he leads a very good life! We have a ramp over the step down to our back garden and he manages that fine, and he plays with my younger dogs quite happily.
Please don't think that I am saying that Ester C is a "Miracle" cure, but it seems to have worked for Cooper!
I hope things work out for Dougie, and I am sending good wishes from Australia!

How is Dougie doing? I hope that it is good news. My poor dog, named Baby, is 16 years old and yesterday she went completely limp in her hind legs, took her to vet and she has 3 ruptured disks. The surgeon said at her age the risk of surgery is bad and not much can be done. They wanted 5 to 7 thousand dollars for surgery and if I had it I would do it, but... The vet said there is really nothing that can be done and has suggested that I put her down. But she is very much aware and very frustrated at her situation and I can't help but to think there is something else I can do. I really don't think it is her time yet.
