Hello,
Can anyone give advise on introducing my Saffie girl to her new 11wk old brother,
a Daxie in 2 weeks time? I was just wondereing if anyone had any stories or ideas so that both dogs will be happy.
My girl is very loving and friendly but i was just wondereing if there was a "way" of doing things so my girl doesn't get jealous, bit of a moody girl but not nasty in any way and i trust her completely.
Thank you Suzi

Just to be on the safe side, I would introduce the two with your current dog on the lead and allow her to sniff the puppy while you are still holding it on your lap for a while...then let the puppy onto the floor ( indoors would be best ) and still with your staffie on the lead allow supervised sniffing...
I'm sure you'll find they'll be great pals before long -

Thanks Norm,
I;ll do that, don't want the pup to be scared of a big ginger face looking at him ,the dog, not me :)

We introduced a new puppy to our two ageing Labs a three weeks ago. I took Leigh's advice and have just left them to it.The pup Moose was abit disorientated for a day or two but soon found her feet. We only interfer when the pup gets too excited and starts to play too roughly. If she does though the two old girls normally tell her off themselves ! She knows when she has gone too far ! They are all best of friend s now and all snuggle down together when they go to sleep.

What about pecking order?
Shoul i make a fuss of the older dog first when i have been out etc?

We just make sure everybody gets an equal amount of attention. It means you have to have three pairs of hands when we have been out or when we come down in the mornings to greet everybody at the same time ! They have managed to sort thier own pecking order out without us interfering in telling them where they should be. Just as long as they know who are the top dogs ! They ones who feed, play, love and take them for walks. Oh and not forgetting picking up their poo !!

Thanks for your help - 2 weeks to go i can't wait!!
I'm a born worrier and yes i will let them sort things out for themselves, keeping a watchful eye on them.

Thankyou
Hard work, but worth it, i have my dogs instead of babies.
I remember my Staffy as a pup chewed every
skirting board in the house, we have moved and luckily don't have any now!

Hiya Suzi
I introduced my 4 year old Staffie to our new pup (Bessie the English Bull Terrier) 6 months ago now and he was great.
I found the best way to do it was keep the older dog on the lead (as suggested in previouse posts) and let the new pup get used to its new surroundings while the older dogs has a supervised sniff.
My 2 were terrible the first few days, Bodie spent the whole time with his nose stuck to bessies bum but they soon came round and are now the best of friends (apart from at mealtimes).
As far as making a fuss goes I think your older girl will keep the pup in line. Make sure you give them equal attention until they sort out a pecking order.
And watch the play fighting, my 2 are constantly roughing each other up and can get quite carried away.
All the best with your new arrival.
I bet u cant wait!
