Hi, skin allergies can sometimes be prevented and sometimes not! You can lower the odds dramatically by:
Making sure he NEVER gets fleas, then he cant get a flea allergy which is very common. Use a dropon flea treatment bought from the vet, not a shop, like Frontline, write the date on the calendar and re-do it on the day it is due. Stick to this strictly. If you have cat/s do them too.

Bath him as little as possible, a thorough brushing and combing every day will keep his coat and skin in good condition and remove dead hairs and dirt. Only bath him if he gets impossibly filthy, and try plain water first in case that will remove it. When you think he is well and truly rinsed- rinse him again! For day to day grub, just let it dry and it will fall out when you groom. You can use very damp towelling to rub him over with to brighten him up. There are dry foam shampoos for grubby faces and paws or just good old plain water.

Wash his bedding in non - bio powder, rinse really well, no conditioner and dont use shake n vac or Febreze around the house.

Is your puppy insured? If not it is a really good idea, as if he gets any medical probs he will be covered for the expensive procedures, which gives great peace of mind. Pet Plan is one of the most popular as they continue to insure dogs all their lives and on-going illnesses are covered for life- I believe. Not all insurance policies offer this. Good luck with your puppy, I hope you dont have any problems with him.
