Yesterday I got my first pug. Her origanal owner would tie her on a 2 foot lead that was anchored to a recliner and leave her there all day. The owners daughter rescued her and then new I wanted one and gaver her to me. She is the most adorable sweet dog. I truelly love her already. I was told she is registered and that they would get her papers to me soon. The wierd thing is when I researched them on the net I could not find a miniature pug. She had to be a miniature because she is only about 5 pounds and is 6 months old. I would think if she is registered that she is a pure breed. She is a little under weight but not ten pounds under weight. Could you please tell me if there is a miniature pug? I just want to know.

No, a Pug is a Pug is a Pug!!
The breed standard is 14lb-18lb, so you would expect a bitch of 6mths to weigh at least 10lb. If she is registered she should be a purebred, but stranger things have happened!
Just out of interest have you taken her to the Vet to have her checked over? (don't expect the vet to say whether or not she's purebred tho!).

I have already made an appointment with the vet. She is going in tomarrow. I have also viewed the page that you suggested. The only thing that is off is that she is only 4 lbs. I am wondering if she is really 6 months old. I already know she is under weight just by looking at her. I have twins and they just love her. She is napping with them now. I have a very bad habit of rescueing dogs. I have alot of large dogs that I have rescued. They all came from very bad homes. I love all my animals but the two biggest loves of my lifes come from awful homes. One was a lab/chow cross that had been beaten. The second a weimer that only weighted 25lbs when I brought her home, she couldn't even stand up and the man that had her paid $300 for her and would put a 10lb bag of food in her pin every Sunday and If she ran out of well. Not to mention her pin only had a cement floor with no roof and she was left in the hot tx sun all day. To make matters worse her breed her everytime she came in heat. Then her and her puppies would have to share the 10lbs of food. Sophie, the pug, is the first small dog I have ever had. The only other small dog I have had was about 40lbs. I am use to rescueing dogs, just not small one, lol.

tagenzer, are you in America? if so then yes she would be what some mills are breeding and selling as (Tea cup pugs) which would explain why she is small, if this is the case then she might not live a long life, lots of luck .

Good luck with your lot you sound like you have your hands full. Thankgod there are people like you that will take in and look after the ones that are being ill treated by idiots.

OK,we just got back from the vet. He did a full line of blood work and she is completely healthy. She has a really bad case of worms and she is on 3 days of two different kinds of wormer. She got all her shots and he is treating as if she has never had anything done. I was misinformed by the person I got her from. The vet said she is not more than 4 1/2 months old. She weights 5lbs and he said after wormning she will probably gain weight rapidly and be right on schedule with her growth. I take her back in one month just to check on the deworming and for more shots. The vet she's her being a very healthy 15lb pug when she is full grown. YIPPY YIPPY YIPPY!!!!!!! She is the perfect addition to the family. I see her being with us forever. Thank you for all your help. I love this board so much I have joined and plan on visiting allot.

Hi Tenna, Congrats on your new addition. We breed and show Pugs in England, and have become completely addicted to them. Some Pugs are smaller than the actual standard, for a variety of reasons, but it certainly sounds like yours has just had an unfortunate start in life. At her age she shoul d be a roly-poly little thing. The worming and a good diet will fix things. My smallest Pug is Puglet, she is seriouslly undersize, and weights just over 10 lbs fuly grown - however sometimes it creeps up to 11 and she has to diet, as her little legs cant stand the extra weight and she wobbles. At 6 months she weighed exactly 6 lbs. She was a puppy with many problesm , and I hand reared her. So glad you Pug has found you, enjoy like with lots of Pug Hugs to come.
