Hi guest! Many people on this forum will have their own personal preferences when it comes to toilet training, I've currently trained my 15 week puppy to ask to go out and it has taken two weeks, while my mum's Border Collie cross took about 2 days!! Personally I use a clicker and treat to reward along with lots of praise! You will find more information about clickers if you search this forum and the net. Just look out for all the obvious signs and times, when my pup wakes up she is put straight out (and I accompany her), we have picked a spot in the garden which she quickly learnt was her 'wee' spot, you may have to stay with your pup for quite a while so take a coat :) One thing I found with my pup when she first arrived was that she found the garden far to interesting to wee in and we had a situation where she would wee in the house after coming in!! Just be patient and dont tell pup off for going in the house as she may become 'shy' about going in front of you at-all. Take her out after eating, drinking and playing or if she starts to circle and sniff around and give her loads of praise for going outside and nothing for going inside. I know some people do not approve of the newspaper method but the breeder of my pup used it and so in the early stages I put some by the back door, simply because my pup recognised and used it (I used paper for about 5 days). But my advice is try and be patient, which is easier said than done! You will get there eventually :) Hope this helps!
Sarah.
