Hi! I have got a staffie dog and 5th generation pedigree. If thats how to describe him.I am not a pro, but am interested in letting him have a few flings before the big snip!!!!! We live in Rotherham and i am basically wanting to know how to go about this procedure or if its a bad idea. What can you charge?

Sorry it is not a good idea, you will not get the owners of quality bitches to use him only the sort of people who think it might be nice to have a litter of pups from their bitch, most of whom will not have any experience. You will be jointly responsible for any puppies produced both morally and in law. Do you want the sort of hassle that may bring when lets face it there are far too may badly bred Staffies about already.

It may also change his behaviour/temperament and there will be no way to change him back -even by having him castrated.

I could be totally wrong but from the way your post is written it seems like your out to make a bit of money and dont particually worry about the state of the pups, i dont want to affend you if im wrong but thats how your post comes across, if people are seriously wanting to put the dog up for stud they wouldnt say "he should have a few flings before the snip", they would be serious and give details of their dog. As said earlier their are enough badly bred staffies about and we want to keep that number down so if you do breed your dog think seriously about the bitch you will go for.

You say you have a 5 generation pedigree, but is he also KC Reg? If not, no responsible breeder is going to want to use him. Your dog's "flings" could result in a lifetime of misery for his offspring.

Hello :)

Maybe I'll try another approach...

Do you show your dog? Does he do well in the ring? If so you would be having people approach you about using him as a stud dog.

I'm sure you've seen the hundreds of stafford pups in the paper every week going for far less than a well bred dog would fetch :( These often end up going to people who want to use them to make themselves a few quid by breeding. It's diluting the breed, without much care for temperment of health checks and is, in part, what gets these fantastic dogs such a bad reputation

There are enough badly bred staffords out there without adding to the growing problem, I'm afraid. You only have to look in the many stafford rescue centers up and down the country to see that people don't care about their dogs as much as their dogs do them :(

Using him as a stud dog might also bring about aggression with other dogs and he may even start to cock his leg against your furniature... this could cost a lot more than the few quid you'd receive using him as a stud.
