Hi all, any of you arden grange worshipers like me tried the new salmon and rice variety my dogs love it, I used to give my shepherds salmon oil as well which was costing me £10.00 per bottle no need to now its already in the food, so saving money but same benefits GREAT

Salmon Oil, like Fish body Oil, is high in Omega 3s which are needed by the body to maintain coat condition etc. Commercial food is made mostly with Cereal and therefore is high in Omega 6 and low in Omega 3 (grain fed meat will be too). This is why Salmon/FBO or Linseed Oil is included in some dog foods. However Linseed Oil comes from a plant and needs enzymes produced by the dog to activate it properly, enzymes which can be missing. also as it comes from a plant it may give some dogs the itchies. I feed 1000mg FBO per day to my dogs on raw combined with 400 iu of Vitamin E as it has a synergistic effect.

Cod Liver Oil contains Vits A and D which can be toxic as they are fat soluble and stored in the body (liver). If you feed liver once a week it should be unnecessary except maybe in the winter when some dogs do not get exposed to enough light for Vit D.
