Molly (working cocker pup, 5 months) can hold her bladder for hours on end at home. However, when we take her for a run-around on the fields, she wees every few minutes. Is this just excitement (she is obsessed with her ball and does lots of retrieving) or might there be something wrong?

Hi Rosemarie, I`d think she`s just marking in the field cos there`s lot`s of funky smells for her :)
With cystitis or urinary infection they can`t hold it & there may be blood in the urine as well & also drinking a lot. When one of mine had it she piddled in the house which is something she`d never done since a pup & that sent alarm bells ringing. A male I was looking after just started drinking a lot & he had an infection so if it looks as if every thing is normal & she only does it in the fields its probably excitement & nothing to worry about :) Of course if your at all worried have a word with your vet.

I'd go along with what christine said there :D

Would also add that cranberry tablets (from a health shop) are great for cystits and urine infections in dogs and humans alike ;)

I have a little working English Setter who always tiddles when excited. I have had her urine checked and all clear. But I can tell, by how and when she does it and the very small amount she does. Not drip drip, little and often like cystitis. I have a friend who has a Westie, and she does the same.

I also swear by cranberry tabs for keeping the urinary tract nice and clear, I give the bitches 1 a day everyday.
