Topic Dog Boards / Breeding / Can Cavalier KC's b covered with no jabs
- By Gilly [gb] Date 11.11.03 14:50 UTC
Hi my name is Gilly

I have a 5 year old black and tan Cavalier King Charles and have been told
that if she is not going to have puppies she should be spayed soon. I would
really like her to have at least one litter.

When I brought her I was told that I would have to go back through the
association for a stud dog. I do not have a problem with that, as I would
not feel happy about using a stud dog from a local paper due to the faults
they can have.

The problem is, is that my German Shepherd and my cavalier are both fed on BARF
(this is raw food diet) as was my last German Shepherd who died last year, aged 11.

Following this way means that they are homeopathically treated, not vaccinated
which I would not want to do.

Is there any member of the association that would let
my Katie be covered without having the jabs?

I am based in Rye, East Sussex (willing to travel).

Hope someone can help. Thank you Gilly.

I'm definitely no expert on breeding, but isn't 5 years plus a bit old for a first litter? Don't quote me on that though, I only have a boy dog, so I don't really know about breeding.

Hi Gilly,
Really, at 5 years old she is too old for a first litter - 2 or 3 is about the right age. Apart from that, I don't see why being unvaccinated would mean stud owners wouldn't consider her.

Hi, agree with Jeangenie - dont see the no vaccination would be a problem - I have never asked a bitches owners about vaccinations before using one of our dogs, but 5 is way to old for a 1st litter from a Cavalier. Sorry if this is a disapointment. If you really want a relative why not go back to her breeder and see if a sister or brother has progency which may be available or going to have litters?
bye
Gwen
