hi there,
I have a 4 year old male basset hound. Have been tring to breed him with another basset hound that is 2 to 3 years old. The problem i'm having is every time he goes to mount her she squats down so he can't do anything. I thought that she was pregant but it turned out to be false. How can i solve this problem, and is there anything i can do to help. Any info on this matter would be great. thank you

If she is willing and ready to stand you can put your knee's under her to support so she can not sit while he mounts and hold them still during the tie.

As far as understand it a lot of bitches require some support and need to be steadied during mating. If you are trying to mate two virgin dogs and you are a novice handler you may well have trouble, best plan would be to use an experienced stud and the help of the studs handler or someone else who has experience in mating dogs.

Hi there almost all Bassets will need help in mating you need to place the male onto the bitch eather on your knee or raised over to bring her up to the male.
As Bassets are heavy dogs they find it hard to do the job them selfs some do manage it well but most would need help.
Maybe it be best to go to a breeder who is used to handling the males?
