Does anyone out there have any experience of this? We are in the process of exporting to Australia but would appreciate some guidance.
I can be mailed privately at janeesmith@btinternet.com

Thanks in advance

Try getting in touch with DEFRA they will give you the in's and out as I believe there is a lot of red tape involved

I was going to do it once then decided it was going to be more trouble than it was worth.I would have had to take a teaser bitch with me up to the vets in Leeds. At the time I didn't have a bitch.
Im not a breeder.I am a pet owner.
I only met these people on the net so people are not always what they say they are.I thought it was best not to bother. My opinion.

i agree with chow on this one, i have had people from americia asking to ship pups over and it is more trouble than it's worth.

I have no actual experience, only involvement with an AI litter born in Australia over 11 years ago, sired by a British dog using frozen semen. All I can say is it's worth all the hassle if you want to help the progression of the breed in a country that might have a limited genepool.

Interestingly, the dog I mention died as a 3 year old of bloat back in 1993 BUT he has 3 daughters & a son born almost 2 weeks ago..such are the wonders of AI & modern breeding techniques.

I`ve got no experience of it either but I`d like to think that if the need arose it would be available to me in the future. There are good breeders outside UK & breeders evrywhere need to keep an open mind about these things, after all the welfare of all breeds doesn`t start & stop in the UK, it`s a universal thing(or should be).

Hi, couldnt agree more Christine! And whilst we have not yet shipped any semen out of the country, we do have straws in storeage from all of our best males, and recently bought out own shipping container. Do have experienc of it the other way, as Arabella is now the proud mummy of 6 pups conceived by AI from semen shipped in from the USA. This is a terrifically exciting litter for us - Arabella was Top Gundon for the last 2 years, and was runner up top dog last year as well. Adam, the dog we used, is a top producing sire and sired the Top Am Cocker fro the last 2 years, so truly blue blooded little Yankees!:)

Best advice would be to discuss everything with the vet who will be doing the collection (we used Gill Averis who couldnt have been more helpful) DEFRA were a nightmare for information, relevant dept. had just moved and the people I spoke to ketp referring me to info on shipping cattle semen! (Details for which are on the web site anyway) of course the cattle stuff is not relevant to dogs, and we scrapped through by the skin of our teeth. However, as the Americans aremuch more used to this sort of thing I think it is a whole lot easier sending it out to them than bringing it in! We did discover that getting the other end to ship using Fed Ex eases a lot of the import problems, rather thatn getting it independently shipped.
bye
Gwen
